Enabling children to flourish and succeed

Admissions Information

We are delighted that you are considering Blackfordby St. Margaret’s CofE Primary School for your child. We are a welcoming Church of England primary school at the heart of our community and aim to make the admissions process as clear and straightforward as possible for families.

This page provides key information about how to apply for a school place, in-year (mid-term) transfers, and the admissions appeals process. It is written in line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance and the School Admissions Code.

1. Admission Arrangements – First-Time Applicants

Our admission arrangements outline how places are allocated and the criteria used when the school is oversubscribed. These arrangements comply with the School Admissions Code and are reviewed annually.

Parents/carers applying for a school place for the first time (for example, Reception intake) should ensure they read the full admission arrangements before making an application.

2. Who to Contact – Admissions (Local Authority)

If you have general questions about the school or would like to arrange a visit, please contact the school office, who will be happy to help.

3. Mid-Term (In-Year) Applications

If you are applying for a place during the academic year (for example, due to a house move or school transfer), this is known as a mid-term or in-year application.

All mid-term (in-year) applications are managed by the Local Authority.

4. Admission Appeals

If your application for a school place is unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal the decision.

The appeal timetable is published annually and appeals must usually be submitted by 28 February each year.

Appeals are heard in accordance with the School Admission Appeals Code. If you require any further guidance regarding the appeals process, please contact the school office or the Local Authority Appeals Team.
